As of 16th August 2024, the professional development (PD) requirements for NSW accredited teachers has changed to reduce unnecessary burden on teachers maintaining their professional knowledge and practice. These changes remove the Elective and Accredited Professional Development (PD) categories, giving NSW teachers greater flexibility in completing their required 100 hours of PD.

The Australian Government will support a 15% wage increase, over 2 years, for early childhood education and care through a new Worker Retention Payment that providers will need to apply for. The payment will start in December 2024 and run for 2 years.

Early childhood education and care (ECEC) providers can apply for a subsidy to help qualified staff complete training that adds to their skills. The professional development subsidy covers 1 day of training for qualified ECEC staff. 

Early childhood education and care (ECEC) educators in training and services can register to join a practicum exchange network. Later in 2024, candidates will be able to search for and arrange exchange opportunities on a dedicated website.
