There are new measures to support the early childhood education and care workforce which include Professional Development Subsidies, Paid Practicum Subsidy and Practicum Exchange. The measures will cost $72.4 million from 2023–24 to 2026–27. The following provides details on each new measure. 

On Thursday 16th March, when the Redlands in southeast Queensland recorded a top temperature of 31.1 degrees, a child was left on a bus for around an hour outside the early learning centre. Since the incident, the centre has suspended excursions and transportation.

In order to decrease the number of children struck and killed by cars, a City of Sydney councillor has proposed that drivers be restricted to driving no faster than 40 km/h around early childhood services.

The State Administrative Tribunal fined a Bunbury childcare centre, in WA $15,000 after a four-year-old boy wandered off its property alone, a caution has been given to childcare service providers.

On Friday, the 10th of March, a three-year-old girl was left on a daycare bus in Victoria for up to five hours. After being put on the bus outside of her home to attend the service, her parents received a call at 3 pm and allegedly told an Educator discovered the young toddler still on the bus in the afternoon. 

The Coalition has pledged to invest $1 billion this year to begin the construction of 500 new preschools, moving forward with its core education programme of providing free pre-kindergarten to all four-year-olds.

The federal government has been urged by the United Workers Union to provide funding for a 25% pay increase in this year's budget.
