A Brisbane childcare provider has been fined $12,500 after a five-year-old child was discovered crossing busy roads alone.  The incident occurred on February 17, 2023, when the child exited through an emergency door that led to street level from the centre, which is located above a shopping complex.

Two alleged incidents of physical violence against a child at Amaze Early Education in Silkstone have prompted a formal investigation by Queensland Police. The reports, made within the past week, concern events that occurred over the last four months.

Following the discovery of serious shortcomings in the case of one of Australia's worst pedophiles, an independent investigation of Queensland's child protection system will be initiated. Under the direction of Luke Twyford from the Child Death Review Committee, the investigation will closely investigate the Blue Card system, which evaluates an individual's suitability to work with children.
