A childcare centre in Bushland Beach, Townsville, has changed its name while under investigation for multiple regulatory breaches, including allegations of poor supervision and child injuries.
The centre, formerly known as Grow Early Education, has been operating since late 2023. According to documents obtained under Freedom of Information (FOI), the service has been cited for numerous breaches of early childhood regulations since its opening.
These breaches include:
- Inadequate supervision of children
- Incidents resulting in child injuries
- Failure to meet National Quality Standards
The centre is now operating under the name Imagine Childcare and Kindergarten Bushland Beach, though it remains under the same approved provider, Imagine Education Australia. The rebranding was approved by the Department of Education on July 23, 2025.
Officials have clarified that:
- The name change does not affect the ongoing investigation
- The centre’s compliance history remains on record
- Investigations into seven new complaints are still underway
The case has raised broader concerns about transparency and accountability in the early childhood sector. Advocates warn that:
- Rebranding may obscure a service’s compliance history from families
- Stronger oversight is needed to ensure public trust
- Families deserve clear, accessible information about service safety records
Imagine Education Australia has not publicly commented on the investigation or the name change.
