Scenario: Lillian - High School Student On Work Placement

Post by eshasharma » Tue Jan 19, 2016 6:12 pm

Hi I am new to this forum. Asking some questions with my assessment.
Being a Supervisor
Assume that you have been given the task of supervising Lillian, a 17-year-old high school student undertaking work experience in your service one day per week for 10 weeks. You are required to:
• Supervise the student at all times
• Assign the student appropriate workplace tasks
• Assess the student’s communication, teamwork and time-management skills
• Provide the student with daily feedback on her workplace performance

1. As Lillian’s supervisor, list the tasks that you would allocate to Lillian and provide a rationale for your choice of tasks. (You should take into account Lillian’s status as a student on work placement, her age, as well as lack of experience, knowledge and skills related to early childhood education and care. You must also consider your duty of care to Lillian).

My answer - Assist children in self help skills such as feeding them, taking them to the toilet with another educator and assisting in giving paper towels and helping children to wash hands properly
Assist the educators in the room in routine cleaning tasks like sweeping, mopping, washing the dishes, vacuuming, etc
Help in setting up activities and packing away
Interact with children and engage them in activities

2. What information/instructions would you provide Lillian to ensure her health and safety while at the centre?
My answer -

3. What information/instructions would you provide Lillian to ensure that she does not put at risk the safety and well-being of children?
My answer - Not to plan activities without asking the educators in the room
Not to take them outside the room without another educator accompanying them
Be aware of children allergies while feeding
While feeding bottle, make sure you read the name on the bottle and give it to the appropriate child.

4. List the daily tasks that could be assigned to the student (conducted under supervision).
My answer - Set up activities for children
Set up the outside play area and help pack away
Interact with children
Routine tasks like sweeping, mopping, etc
Help the educators while providing food to the children
Feeding the children who needs to be fed
Making children's beds at rest time

5. What practical information would need to be provided to the student in relation to WHS?
My answer - The student should know the dress code like full sleeve shirt, trousers, shoes
Wear hat during outside play
Use gloves while cleaning spills, body fluids, using chemicals
Store chemicals in the appropriate place

Can somebody tell me anything be added to my response?
Thank you

2. What information/instructions would you provide Lillian to ensure her health and safety while at the centre?

Using gloves when serving children, wiping their nose.
How to bend a pick up a child properly for Back Care
How to disinfect tables after eating using the correct procedure
Importance of constantly washing hands etc.

I think the rest of your response is good!
