Models Of Leadership in the Early Childhood Profession

Post by bubbler12 » Tue Jan 05, 2016 1:56 pm

Question 2- Models of Leadership
Stamopoulos (2011) believes that “leadership emerges as each professional confidently and respectfully communicates and influences each other through shared dialogue and reflection that fosters quality curriculum and practice. Within the model, leadership is shared between leaders and followers who are often the same people who take on different responsibilities at different times”.
Provide two examples of how this leadership model is evident within an early childhood education and care setting

What I have so far-
I am unsure about this one but does it mean like a room leader has a different leader to a assistant ?

Maybe something like:

How a lead educator typically does group time but allows the assistant educator to take on the role of doing group time with the children...

Assistant educators given the responsibility to plan organise and implement a group task based on a current interest within the group...

Lead educators doing nappies and toilet training rather than assistants (some room leaders refuse this job... slack I know!)...

Is this on the right track

Question 2- Models of Leadership

Provide two examples of how this leadership model is evident within an early childhood education and care service

Answer-
The two examples of how this leadership model is evident within an early childhood education and care service is by
• In the kinder room the kindergarten teacher usually does a group time with the children before morning tea this involves the children sitting on the mat making eye contact with the teacher who is talking, calls the role for each child’s name, ask the children what is the day of today, read stories and talk to the children about the current interest they are learning about within the room. If the teacher is busy setting up a new learning experience in the room for the children to explore the kinder assistant educator takes on the role of doing a group time with the children.

• As assistant educator I have the responsibility to assist my room leader where I can by planning, organise and implement a group task based on the children’s current interest this was completed when I observed a small group of children looking though a dinosaurs book and they were getting really excited on how big each dinosaur can grow. The group of children walked up to me and said “Look how big this dinosaur is”, I had a conversation with the children about every dinosaur is different and I said to the children “I will go and get some dinosaurs for you all to have a look at”. I extended on the children’s interest of dinosaurs and set up a learning experience for the children to explore with different coloured dinosaurs, wood, trees, grass and rocks.
