excursion permission

This is our Diploma question. And I have answered it. .............


b. You are about to go an excursion and one of the children does not have a completed written
consent form. The parent rings and gives verbal permission. What is your response?

My answer I wrote ......It is the Policy of the Chilcare Centre that you attend, that states written authorisation is the only form of permission allowed. This is clearly stated in the Policy & procedures Documents that you signed on joining, and are also written in our information guidelines discussed and handout out at enrollment.
These policies are for the protection and safety of your child. You are very much welcome to pop down to our centre if convenient and sign a form before your child leaves. If you can do this soon, we would very much like “Joe' to attend our excursion with us. Thank you for understanding.

Now a class mate tells me that parents CAN ring and give permission....... my thinking is that it could actually 'not be that person' on the phone, could be the ex'es girlfriend or anyone. Am I wrong please?

I can't find any literature to support this. maybe it is up to each individual Centre also ?

You're right the parent needs to give written consent if they want the child to attended the excursion. However, there may be some centres that do allow children to go on excursions if there parent phones and gives permission over the phone. In this case, 2 educators should verify with the parent to confirm over the phone and both educators should sign the permission form. When the parent collects the child they should also sign the permission form. It's a thing grey line really... It's not really in the regulations but the parent is still giving permission for the child to attend the excursion verbally... Depends really on the leniency of the director....
