Assignment Questions In Different States!

Post by Kaz » Sun May 19, 2013 7:59 am

I have been watching a few posts that are in other states other than QLD where I am. It seems that each unit is a little different or at least the questions are a little different... Has anyone else found this? and I have a friend that is moving interest soon and she's worried that when she asks for a transfer to the new tafe that she will have to re do units/assignments, do you think this is the case?? (she's studying her pre-diploma(also into the diploma subjects) subjects in nsw but is moving to qld in sept holidays)..

Yes, I agree that there are many versions of questions around depending on which state you are in. However, I don think your friend will have to redo assignments because she is moving to another state. All the modules/units in each of the qualifications are the same, it's just the questions that differ but you are all learning the same thing. Before she transfers I suggest she gets a transcript which will tell her which modules she has completed.

Hope this helps,

Thanks L.A. I told her to talk to her tafe where she is as I transferred this yr from one tafe to another but they were both here in qld :/ but it was simple as a phone call.

I work in a long day care centre in Qld and I'm currently studying my Cert iii. I also work with a lady who is studying her Cert iii as well. We are both studying through different training companies and the assessment criteria between the two is huge. I have to do so much more for my written assessment when compared to that of my work colleague.

Some of the high schools here in Qld also offer their students to study their Cert iii in year 11 and 12. My work colleague, who I mentioned above, was telling me that her daughter just completed her Cert iii through our local high school and her written assessment was basically yes or no answers.

Why aren't all training companies, tafes and schools on par with each other?

It appears that some of us have to do a lot of hard work to get our qualifications while others have it just "handed" to them.

Unfortunately there isn't any one definitive version of a course.

My understanding is the vocational training authorities release a list of units that can be included in a course and what those units need to teach. Vocational training companies and TAFEs then create the teaching materials that students receive, based on those requirements. There are companies that specialise in creating those materials and then sell them to many training organisations, while some training organisations simply create their own proprietary version of the course. A certain number of units are compulsory so every training company/TAFE should have them. Other units are electives, so the training company will choose which ones the student will learn.

In some cases, elective units might be needed for a professional accreditation. For example, there are two elective units covering GST and BAS services that can be done as part of the Certificate IV in Bookkeeping/Accounting courses. Those (or equivalents) are required for bookkeepers to register as BAS agents.
