Sebastian Afraid Of Changing Tables

im stuck on this question

three year old sebastion wears nappies and has had a fright on a change table outside your service. his mothert Miran has told you that Sebastion is very afraid of change tables and screams when required to use one. Miran would rather you use another area as she hopes to toilet train Sebastion soon and wants to build a more posotive environment around toileting.

a. how will you change sebastions nappies and still observe hygiene regulations, OH&S requirements and high qaulity care requirments?

I thought due to hygiene and OH&S policies the child must only be changed on the change table. please correct me if im wrong or if you know where it would still be safe and hygienic to change sebastion?

b. how does your method support sebastions emotional development ?


c. how does the method meet the needs of the parent?


reading questions b and c makes me think that there is an alternative place to change sebastion although im really not sure i would really appreciate any help on this

Hi Jo,

Sine the parent has already mentioned that they would like to start toilet training I think the best solution is just to start... You could also recommend that the child wears pull ups instead of a nappy so you can possibly do a "standing up nappy change". This basically means that the child stands up rather than lay down when you change their nappy. I've looked at policies and regulations but I can't seem to find if you can actually use this procedure in a Childcare centre. I've used it when doing toilet training and haven't been told otherwise. There is no alternative place for the nappy change to take place it has to be done in a toileting area....I think the "stand up nappy change" is probably the best method to use for this scenario...although I'm not sure if it's acceptable in Childcare...
