Leftover food given to children

Post by diob » Wed Nov 04, 2015 12:43 am

Is it acceptable to give children jelly that was made on a Thursday used on a Friday for afternoon tea, then the leftovers were again used on the following Monday afternoon after being left in the fridge over the weekend uncovered ?

According to Australian Food Authority (for Childcare Centres):
5.10) Any food not consumed after serving should be discarded.
5.11) Food should only be reheated once, with any leftovers of the reheated food discarded.
5.12) Leftover food that has not been reheated or served may be placed back under temperature control and used within 48 hours, provided the ‘4-hour/2-hour storage rule’ has been observed.
4.6) Preserved and acidified foods (eg jams, hard cheeses, beetroot, prunes etc.) which need refrigeration after opening should be kept according to the manufacturer’s recommendation for shelf life and storage conditions.

Ref: Food Authority

Also, since the food was kept uncovered in the fridge then it should not have been given to the children as there may have been cross contamination... All foods need to be kept covered, labelled etc.

Hope this helps,

All food should not be given, but here it is about jelly which can be put within the refrigeration with proper instruction given by the company(including days).
