What are some good songs that implement learning?
What are some good songs that implement learning?
Today I heard one of the girls singing ba ba black sheep
and at the end, adding to it "Thankyou said the Master, Thankyou said the dane
and thankyou said the little boy who lived down the lane." whilst showing each of the three
on her fingers and asking the boys and girls how many thanked the sheep.
It was the first time I heard it sung this way so I'm not sure if it was something she added to it herself
but what are other good songs that you can use in this similar way that can be entertaining and
also teach whether it be counting or something else.

Re: What are some good songs that implement learning?
Hi Danielle,
Yeah adding "Thank you" as part of the second verse in Baa Baa Black Sheep is fairly common.. I'm surprised that you haven't heard it before... I like - 5 cheeky monkeys swinging in a tree, wibbly wobbly woo, down in the jungle, 10 fat sausages, Johnny works with 1 hammer etc... If you need the lyrics let me know so I can post them up...
I was just browsing through the forum and I found a topic on songs for teaching shapes. There are some really good ideas for you to checkout: http://www.aussiechildcarenetwork.com/t ... p-t59.html
Also, check out the Nursery Rhymes in Printables section of this site, under Reading Skills.. These are great to print off to make a song book or simply to get ideas: http://www.aussiechildcarenetwork.com/r ... sheets.php
Cheers ,

Re: What are some good songs that implement learning?
No actually, I haven't. My grandmother was the one who taught me the song
when I was little. I suppose maybe the master, the dame and the little boy who lives
down the lane weren't so polite in my grandmother's day
Well as for me... Thank you for the songs and it's okay
I should have no trouble finding the lyrics. I was on the printables page the other day
and didn't even notice you had nursery rhymes there. Thankyou for letting me know.

The thank you part of baa baa black sheep is not always sung, I always have sung it that way however as I feel it does teach the children.
A simple search should bring up heaps of songs that children learn from.
Head, shoulders, knees & toes...an all time fav and good for all ages

Here are some I use:
I wonder what your name is, I wonder if you know
Your name is ________ (child says own name)
Hello, hello, hello, hello, hello, hello, hello
--------
Two little eyes to look around.
Two little ears to hear each sound.
One little nose to smell what's sweet.
One little mouth that likes to eat.
----------
The wheels on the bus go round and round,
round and round, round and round,
The wheels on the bus go round and round,
All the way to town.
The driver on the bus goes steer, steer, steer,....
The horn on the bus goes beep, beep, beep,......
The wipers on the bus go swish, swish, swish,..........
The people on the bus go up and down, up and down, up and down.......
The babies on the bus go wah, wah, wah...........

Wind the Bobbin Up
I find this song easy for young ones to learn
Wind the bobbin up
Wind the bobbin up
Pull, pull, clap, clap, clap
Wind it back again
Wind it back again
Pull, pull, clap, clap, clap
Point to the ceiling, point to the floor
Point to the window, point to the door
Clap your hands together, one two three
Put your hands upon your knees
Wind the bobbin up
Pull, pull, clap, clap, clap
Wind it back again
Wind it back again
Pull, pull, clap, clap, clap
Point to the ceiling, point to the floor
Point to the window, point to the door
Clap your hands together, one two three
Put your hands upon your knees
interlude
Wind the bobbin up
Pull, pull, clap, clap, clap
Wind it back again

Clap your hands together, one two three
Put your hands upon your knees
One, two, three put your hands upon your knees!

Re: What are some good songs that implement learning?
Here is a good one I found for learning about right and left...
Right Hand, Left Hand
This is my right hand,
I’ll raise it up high (right hand over head). This is my left hand,
I’ll touch the sky (left hand up).
Right hand (show right palm)
Left hand (show left palm)
Roll them around (roll hands over and over) Left hand (show left palm)
Right hand (show right palm)
Pound, pound, pound (pound fists together)
