Hello.
Recently I have had an incident at my work which now has resulted me being accused of “grabbing” the child by the neck and yelling at the same child.
Back story: I have an older child who regularly comes into the crèche, they have this tendency of kicking a ball really hard and up high. Me being the educator I always tell the children to kick the ball below the shoulders and watch out for our friends.
Unfortunately a few weeks ago this same child kicks a ball hard and hits another child in the eye. I immediately had to attend to the injured child. I did ask the other child to stop the game while attended to the injured child. They sat down while they waited for me to come back.
When I came back I mentioned to the child they are not in trouble but I would like them to move to another activity for awhile. The child refuses to leave sports area and starts screaming at me. This incident went back and forth. Every time I tried to encourage the child to move along to another activity the child would scream at me even more. At one point I had to raise my voice so I can be heard.
The child has told their parents and my boss that I yelled at them and I grabbed the child by the neck.
My boss told me the following
1. I can’t put a child in time out ( I didn't )
2. I can’t put my hands on any child at all (I didn’t put my hands around the child’s neck ,I put my hand on the lower part of neck on his back as a gesture to either apologise to the other child or it could of been when encouraging him to move to another activity).
3. I screamed at the child. I told my manager I raised my voice as the child was yelling and screaming at me. She told me yelling and raising your voice is the same thing.
I want to know if someone can help me on rules and regulations on this whole situation.
I know there a rules and regulations for each state (I’m in NSW)
I would greatly appreciate the help
Thank you
