OSCH/OOSH Service Pen Pals

Hi everyone

I started at a new service today, and I've been put in charge of a "cultural competency club," (which desperately needs a new name) and I was thinking of starting a pen pal program to let the kids get to know how other schools work, other OSHC/OOSH services work, etc.

(I figure this will help avoid the tokenism, and make it meaningful. It also points out that culture isn't just about race, etc.)

I was thinking of getting the kids to make up an "about us" pack, with some stories, info, pics (if I can get the slips signed) along with what each child likes to do, and what they think makes their school different. This could be sent out to partner schools, and they could send something similar back.

I was wondering if anyone would be interested in joining a pen pal program?
It's going to take me a while to get it up and running, but I'd love to have a range of different schools for the kids to write to.

I think that this is a great idea! The only hard bit is getting started. I think you should personally contact/email OOSH services that you would like to be Pen Pals with or even send a general email to OOSH services and see what response you get. From there you can start it. You could even maybe try emailing schools overseas and see if any schools would be interested in doing this as well.
