For the first question some ideas. Infants: Read simple books with lots of pictures of animals, cars and other familiar objects (Make the sounds of animals ask questions about the book).Or Have laminated pictures of animals with songs relating on back (Lay them out on a table and have the infants choose or just look at them then hold them up as you sing the song). Toddlers: Create a collage with children with a particular theme. (i.e. ocean theme) (Have the child identify the ocean themed objects and name them). Or Put out sorting baskets with different objects. Have the child match simular/objects that work together. (i.e. key and padlock) (Ask questions to help the child’s train of thought (i.e. what does a baby sleep in?)). Preschoolers: Have a series of photos/pictures in the centre of the room. Have each child choose one or two and get them to tell everyone a story based on their pictures (Provide a very large range of pictures. Encourage imagination and relating place to object. (i.e. beach to surfboard)). Or Put out a set of scales along with different objects of different weights (Ask the child which object they think will be heavier. Get the children to try and even the scales using a number of objects. Discuss how the objects are opposite). After School: Put children into groups and help them create a script for a play with different characters and props ( Get them to create a story plan first. Then decide of characters and props. Encourage role assigning. (i.e. writer, costumes ect..)). Or Set up a dramatic play café or office where planning and communication is needed (Pretend to be a customer, ask who is cooking, who is serving, what’s on the menu ect..).

Hope this helps this is along the lines of what I did for my diploma:)
