CHCECE021 - Scenario: Jock - Poor Expressive & Receptive Skills

Post by Samaria » Wed Oct 01, 2014 9:16 pm

Your Assignment Module Number and Heading: CHCECE021 Implement Strategies for the Inclusion of all Children
Your Assignment Type: Case Scenario
Currently Working in Childcare? No
Your knowledge: Beginner

Your Question?
Jock
“My name is Jock.. I am 2 years old. I have a moderate hearing impairment. I am small for my age and have poor expressive and receptive language skills. I live in a high rise Department of Housing flat on the 3rd floor with my mother and younger sister. Sometimes my mother leaves me on my own. My mother is a casual drug user.

Question
Read the scenario and list the additional information would you need to support Jock in the centre.

What is your answer so far or What have you done so far as an attempt to solve this question?
I've been coming back and fourth to the question, now its the last one left for the unit, I just don't know what to write. I've got one so far and it is:

1. Reports and assessment from specialist ( for Jocks hearing)

( as an educator do I have the right to ask for information in regards too Jock's mothers personal life?)

Description and Message:
So that's all I've got just ONE =/

Could anyone please help, I would really appreciate it

Thank you, kind regards SAMARIA :D

No I don't think it's too personal to ask for this information. As jacks teacher you need to know the extent of his hearing loss so you can make suitable arrangements within the environment to support him. It also will benefit you with this information so you can assist his mother for Jacks hearing as well...

Hope this helps,

I would add that this child is at serious risk. "I live in a high rise Department of Housing flat on the 3rd floor with my mother and younger sister. Sometimes my mother leaves me on my own. My mother is a casual drug user".
If he is left on his own he can be exposed to a fire or any other danger, and he lives in a third floor. His communication skills are poor and he won´t ask for help if he is in danger. I think that his hearing is the last of his problems :(
As an educator I would be more concerned about what the social services need to say about a 2 year old in this situation.
