CHCECE001- Scenario: Showing Respect To Babies - Educator & Parent

Post by Kaz » Mon Mar 23, 2015 11:48 am

Assessment 2
As educators we need to build upon our own cultural understanding of different child rearing practices and support them at the education and care service to ensure children feel safe, secure and supported.

Scenario

The educator demonstrates the understanding of how important it is to respect babies and children. She demonstrates this by always telling them what she is doing. She always thinks of them as people who deserve respect. In her culture words are the main way of communicating.

A parent in the service is of a different culture who never tells her child what she is doing always caring him in a sling and never puts him down unless she is feeding or changing him.

This mother explains to the educator that, in her culture, they believe babies should have close body contact and verbal communication is not required. She believes all the baby requires is body contact and communication is going on all the time. It shows you are very close to that person when you do not need to talk.

It is acknowledged that the educators have different beliefs on what babies need. The educator wants to be culturally responsive. However, she does think that it is important to gain a better understanding of what respect means to the mother.

Research the Early Years Learning Framework principles and practices to come to a possible outcome.

1.What is your “possible outcome”? (include reference to the Early Years Learning framework to support your decisions).

I'm not 100% sure what this is asking of me?? Can someone point me in the right direction please :)

I'm not sure but I think "outcome" means choosing the Principles and Practices from the EYLF that best respond to this scenario and using this to come up with how you gain a better understanding of what respect means to the mother.

Have a look at the following to find which Principles and Practices best fit into this scenario:

Understanding the EYLF

Hope this helps,
