Outdoor Experiences Using Natural Resources - Work Placement

Post by EmmaJane_234 » Sat Jun 04, 2016 4:04 pm

Hi, so for my Certificate III I need to do an outdoor experiance using natural recources.
but unfortunatly my teacher has placed me in a service that dosen't have many (like nothing) that is natural and I can use.

I was hoping someone could give me a few ideas on what I could do. The ages of the children range from 2 - 4 years.

- Use playdough with sticks, leaves and stones in small baskets.
- Children can collect sticks, leaves and rocks and create a collage or nature bracelets
- Collect flowers and create flower playdough
- Use leaves and create leaf rubbings using crayons
- Set a table up with 4 trays, add sand to each tray along with stones, sticks, playdough, pine cones etc. that the children can use to create

Nature Bracelets
Plastic Bottle Planter

Hope this helps,

Hay Emma! For one of my tasks during placement I engaged the children in a play dough experience with herbs that the children were able to pick themselves from the pots. It was a great sensory, manipulation, natural-materials experience for the nursery age.

Some great ideas Lorina!
I love the leaf rubbing one. I would like to try that at my centre.

I just want to add that we have an issue with crayons in the toddler room. The toddlers always try to eat them!

Regarding the crayons, you just need to supervise the toddlers with them and constantly remind them that they are not food! :giggle:

They will begin to understand soon enough...

They already know that they are not supposed to eat them though! I caught one toddler hiding under the table attempting to eat the crayons. Is there anything I could spray on the crayons to make them less appealing?

:giggle: How Cheeky!

Maybe you could rub salt on them to try and get the kids to stop eating them!
