Your Assignment Module Number and Heading: chc30708 Support Practices
Your Assignment Type: Standard Question
Currently Working in Childcare? No
Your knowledge: Beginner

Your Question?
You work in a small service where all age children, from 12 moths to 12 years, are together at different times during the day. It is 3.30 pm and the school children have joined the pre-school group. You are now limited with the space available indoors. One staff members three babies/toddlers 1-3 year olds, and you and another staff member have the rest of the group; four 3-5 year olds and five 5-12 year olds. You would like the children to do a group experience. You see this as a good opportunity for them to collaborate together and choose an experience they all can do.

1 How do you encourage them to verbalise their own ideas?
2 How do you encourage them to listen and consider the ideas of others?
3 How might you come to a group decision?
4 How do you ensure everyone has had an opportunity to contribute
5 How do you ensure similarities and differences of communication styles are respected
6 How do you communicate the inclusion of everyone and an understanding that everyone has the responsibility for the safety of the younger children?

What is your answer so far or What have you done so far as an attempt to solve this question?
1 We can all sit in a circle and go around the group taking turns.
2 Explain that its fair if we listen to other people as they are listening to you when its your turn. We need to respect each other and listen to other ideas.
3 We might have to go with majority rules. We can discuss all options and see what is possiable for the different development levels.
4. ???
5 ??
6. ? Sorry Im really stick on these questions. I have tried all my resources and cant seem to find help.

Description and Message:
Hope someone can put me on the right track with these questions. Been spending alot of time searching for answers but have come up empty. :( :( Thanks

A possible group experience could be a large mural (paint/collage etc). The older children could give the younger children suggestions & assist them in contributing to the activity.
You could start of by brainstorming ideas of what to do on the mural (to ensure everyone gets a go we have a teddy bear and whoever is holding the teddy gets to talk - it is passed around till everyone gets a say)
When everyone has had a say you could work our what resources you have and this will help narrow down what can actually be done. Maybe pair up (or groups of 3 etc) kids so some big kids and some little kids are in each group and each group tasks responsibility for a certain part of the mural.
Notr sure if this is what you are looking for but hope it helps
