CHCCS400A Summary of ECA Code of Ethics

Post by Steffelz » Mon Dec 12, 2011 2:43 pm

Hey all, Ive answered a question about the Code of Ethics and was just wondering if anyone could check it and let me know if its right.
the Question is
Write a brief summary of the Early Childhood Australia ‘Code of Ethics’. Be sure to explain how the Code of Ethics impacts on your role in early childhood education.
The answer is
The Early Childhood Australia ‘Code of Ethics’ :

- Provides guidelines for professional behavior and assists desision making issues that affect
childcare.
- Helps us as carers set professional goals but does not set enforcable standards or tell us what to
do.
- Offers guidelines in relation to children, families, collegues, community and society, and carers as
professionals.
- It provides carers with a helpful guide for examining and promoting ethical behavior in relation to
programme planning; Resolving ethical dilemmas etc.
- Goals of the Code of Ethics include, but are not limited to:
>Clarifying what is important among conflicting workplace demands.
> Specifying the core values, beliefs and practices that are
fundamental to early childhood professionals.
> Ensuring quality of service by identifying what cannot be
compromised.
> Raising the status of early childhood workers.
> Assisting in decision-making concerning new policies or
regulations.
> Unifying the profession by identifying common beliefs among
different sectors.
> Equipping early childhood professionals to assume new roles and
responsibilities in relation to families, colleagues and the
profession.
> Expanding professional development opportunities for more
experienced and qualified early childhood professionals.

- Values embedded into the code include respect, democracy, honesty, integrity, justice, courage,
inclusivity, social and cultural responsivness , and education.
- The Code recognises the complexities inherent in our work and the need to think before acting. It challenges us as professionals to take action in the face of practices that undermine the wellbeing of children and their families and provides a platform for ongoing advocacy.

is this correct?? thanks guys :)
