TOBIAS HAS RECENTLY ENROLLED IN YOUR CENTRE , HE IS 4 YEARS OLD AND HIS PARENTS ARE BOTH PROFESSIONALS . mANDARIN IS THE LANGUAGE SPOKEN AT HOME . YOU ARE AWARE THAT TOBIAS SEEMS TO BE VERY TRIED TOWARD THE END OF THE WEEK AND LACKS FOCUS, YOU ASK TO SPEAK TO HIS PARENTS HAVE ARRIVES WITH LIMITED ENGLISH LANGUAGE. AFTER DISCUSSING HOW TOBIAS IS PROGRESSING YOU OBSERVE THE PARENTS TALKING TO TOBIAS IN MANDARIN YO RECOGNISU ATTEMPT TO SPEAK WITH THEM IN ENGLISH ANDE THAT SOME OF YOUR COMMENTS MAY NOT BE INTERPRETED AS YOU INTENDED THEM . FINALLY AFTER 30 MINS TOBIAS TELLS YOU THAT HE ATTENDS ANOTHER SERVICE 5 DAYS A WEEK AFTER HE FINISHES AT YOUR CENTRE . YOU ASK HIM WHAT TIME HE GETS HOME AND HE STATES THAT AFTER HE FINISHES HIS OTHER SCHOOL AT 7 PM HE GOES TO HES GRANDMOTHERS HOME HE SAYS THAT HES PARENTS PICK HIM UP AT 9 PM EACH NIGHT .
WHAT ARE SOME OF THE ISSUES YOU NEED TO THINK ABOUT ?
HOW CAN YOU SUPPORT TOBIAS AT THE CENTRE?
HOW CAN YOU DISCUSS AND EDUCATE THE PARENTS WITH RESPECT TO THIER CULTURAL DIFFERENCES ABOUT ADEQUATE SLEEP AND HOW THIS MAY BE AFFECTING TOBIAS ?
HOW WILL YOU APPROACH THE ISSUE OF TOBIAS ATTENING ANOTHER CENTRE ( WHICH YOU REALISE IS A SCHOOL PREPARATION SERVICE)
HOW DOES THE CENTRE APPROACH THE EXPECTIONS THAT TOBIAS PARENTS MAY HAVE ON HIM ?
last one help please

Re: last one help please
Hi Jsmd,
I noticed you got all your questions answered except for this one! Thought I'd help you out...
WHAT ARE SOME OF THE ISSUES YOU NEED TO THINK ABOUT ?
- Expectations parents have on Tobias.
- Pressure of study.
- Tobias getting home late each night.
- Tobias attending a school preparation service.
- Cultural Differences & Values
HOW CAN YOU SUPPORT TOBIAS AT THE CENTRE?
- Provide him with activities that can be done as an individual or in small groups.
- Provide Tobias with opportunities to relax.
- Encourage Tobias in physical activity (helps to relieve stress).
- Don't force Tobias to participate in activities, let him decide what he wants to do.
HOW CAN YOU DISCUSS AND EDUCATE THE PARENTS WITH RESPECT TO THIER CULTURAL DIFFERENCES ABOUT ADEQUATE SLEEP AND HOW THIS MAY BE AFFECTING TOBIAS ?
- Give parents articles about adequate sleep in Mandarin.
- Ask a parent or worker who may speak Mandarin to translate your concerns to them.
- Talk about how you notice that Tobias seems tired and your concerned with how much sleep he is getting.
- Maybe suggest that he can sleepover at his grandmother's house some days during the week.
- Suggest that Tobias cuts down his attendance of the other centre. Instead of five days he could go 3 days.
HOW WILL YOU APPROACH THE ISSUE OF TOBIAS ATTENING ANOTHER CENTRE ( WHICH YOU REALISE IS A SCHOOL PREPARATION SERVICE)
- I don't really believe that there is an issue with attending a school preparation service. I understand that it puts pressure on children and parents kinda force their children to attend but parents only want whats best for their kids. I would talk to his parents about the kind of activities he does at the other service and see if they can be implemented at this centre. You could also provide information on developmentally appropriate activities and for a four year old what stage of development he is upto. This is just to give the parents an understanding that Tobias isnt required to attend a school preparation centre because he is learning the same things at this service.
HOW DOES THE CENTRE APPROACH THE EXPECTIONS THAT TOBIAS PARENTS MAY HAVE ON HIM ?
- Be respectful. Provide information on the programming, stages of development and the reasons you set up the experiences you do. Try to convey that Tobias is already a bright boy... Have a school information night to talk about school readiness and what you are doing at the centre to prepare the children for school when the time comes.
There, now you will be able to finish your assignments ,
