Hey Everyone,

I just need some advice. I recently had an injury at work and I was wondering if I should claim workers compensation?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Missy,

Well I really think it depends on whether you would like to claim workers compensation or not...did you trip and fall at work during work hours? Are you seriously injured that you have to take a few weeks off work to recover?

Basically workers comp, is insurance cover that covers all the medical bills etc that you may need to get because of your injury. Like if you slipped and twisted your ankle, well personally I wouldn't claim workers comp because it is just a twisted ankle but if it is a serious injury than sure you should claim it.

You normally only have 48hrs, from when you got your injury to claim it,so just let your director know and they can organize it for you...

For me I have a serious back problem... Unfortunately most of the time my back pain usually starts while I'm at work. However I have never claimed workers comp... it is a re-occurring injury that I have had for the last 5 years. In my opinion it is not right to claim workers for everything little injury that may happen during work...

Yes I agree that I have spent more than enough on medical bills such as treatment, specialists, x rays etc and at times can be a little expensive but Medicare normally covers most medical bills (except some treatments) and for the rest I have private health insurance.

It's up to you whether or not you should claim workers compensation...

Workers comp is hard, but harder if you can't prove what caused it. If you didn't have an initial date of injury at work, documented and sighted by your boss, then you'll have a hard time getting any recognition. I had all that when I had a case of workers comp and I swear and always will that it's not worth the effort. You're better off seeking professional assistance and staying active as much as you can. For me, it's fortnightly trips to the physio and pain medication.
