CHCHILD401A Identify and respond to children and young people at risk ..Sorry another question

Post by coosa » Tue Jul 19, 2011 1:45 pm

Im almost finished my assignment and having a bit of trouble with the last part.

Allison is a qualified worker in the section of a childcare centre where you are the assistant. you observe that allison:
Shouts at children regularly and tells them they are 'naughty' and 'silly'
Talks about the children, within hearing, to other caregivers
Gossips about the children and their parents in the staff room

1. Explain why allisons ations are not respectful of childrens rights?
2. What actions would you take to uphold your ethical responsibilities to promote childrens rights?

Thanks for any help :)

Hi Coosa,

Can you please read our "Forum Rules" and edit your post as per the regulations...

Couple of things I would like to quote:
1) When posting a new topic asking for help with an assignment question, the topic name (Subject heading) must have the following format –

“{MODULE NUMBER} – {ASSIGNMENT QUESTION}”

A good example will be: “CHCIC512A - Plan and Implement inclusion of children with additional needs”

A bad example: “Please help with my assignment” (or) “HELP! My assignment is due”.

2) When posting your topic, rather than simply typing the question and expecting it to be answered, please provide your answer or your understanding for that question so other members can help you with anything you may have missed or misunderstood. You must understand that our members are there to help you with your study and NOT for providing you with answers.

Click here to read the Forum Rules & Regulations. Please read the rules for asking a question in "Early Childhood Studies Support Forum" as well..

Support from our team will be provided once you have edited your post..

Hey Coosa,

Thanks for re-editing your post :) .

Explain why allisons ations are not respectful of childrens rights?

- Allison is labeling the child by calling them "naughty" and "silly" which can have a negative effect. The child shouldn't be labelled because they did something wrong their behavior should be guided.

- When Allison talks to others about the children, more often than not a child may overhear what she is saying. This will have a negative impact on the child she is referring too as those children who overhear may begin to copy and say what Allison has said.

- When working in childcare you must respect each family and the children and be confidential rather than gossiping.

What actions would you take to uphold your ethical responsibilities to promote childrens rights?

- Educate and provide information to Allison about children's rights.

-Talk to the director about what you have observed.

-Ask Allison to review the policies and procedures.

The above points are just a few ideas you can use... I suggest you go to the Early Childhood Australia website and read through the children's rights and see how you can match the above points with the Children's Rights...

Hopefully this should get you started... let me know if you're having further troubles..
