Special Needs in Childcare - short courses?

Post by Bensos » Sun Oct 16, 2016 9:59 am

Hi All,

Im just finishing up my cert III, but as I am with inspire its an 8 to ten week marking schedule.

I dont want to rest on my laurels whilst I wait to get my marks and do potential re-submissions, so was thinking of doing some short courses on working with children with special needs. Can anyone recommend any short courses (weekenders/home study etc) that I could do over the next three months?

I know its a very vast area of study and expertise and i'm not looking to offend any specialists! But as im at the end of my Cert III and looking back to my practical experience, and correlating that to what was covered in workbooks and assignments - I dont feel like working with special needs children was covered enough. Im specifically interested in learning about coping mechanisms, learning strategies, supporting children through kinder and into the school system etc. Any pointers would be appreciated.

Also - whilst accredited study would be great, it doesnt have to be - just some good solid pointers and information would be hugely appreciated!

Many Thanks.

Hi there - I am also with Inspire so understand where you are coming from. :)

I found some online modules this morning while doing some browsing which might be of interest to you. They also have recorded webinars available on the Early Years Connect site.

I would just assume it is for reading references...

You may have to go a professional development course where you need to pay for it...
