CHC50113 - Different Parenting Styles

Post by bubbler12 » Sun Mar 08, 2015 7:59 am

Different beliefs-
All families are unique and bring with them different family styles of discipline and beliefs about and expectations and of behaviour. Provide two examples of what different family parenting styles towards behaviour could look like?

This is what I have so far-
These are different family parenting styles towards behviour that can look like
Permissive parenting-
Permissive parents are not demanding and do not expect compliance with stringent rules or elevated standards. These parents, however, are warm and responsible, usually sensitive to the needs and concerns of their children. Often, these parents might be driven by a need to be liked by their childreThese children, purportedly, are often impulsive because they do not develop the capacity to regulate their behavior effectively, especially in social relationships. These children are also more likely than peers to be victimized at school. Later, they might exhibit misconduct. Unlike children whose parents are authoritarian, children whose parents are permissive later develop solid relationships with these parents.

Authoritarian parenting

Like authoritative parenting, authoritarian parenting also coincides with expectations of compliance with firm rules and high standards. However, in contrast to authoritative parenting, authoritarian parents discourage dialogues about these rules, exhibiting rigidity and inflexibility. They do not justify the rules with reason or argument. In addition, these parents are not responsive to the needs and concerns of their children.
Their children as a consequence might not show initiative, independence, or curiosity. The capacity of these children to reach suitable decisions in social settings might also be impaired-and instead they might merely follow social norms. These problems might represent limited opportunities to choose which behaviors they would like to pursue early in life. Rebellion might also be common in these children.

SO i have this so far
• The permissive parenting style is an extremely relaxed approach where parents are generally warm, nurturing and loving and they feel their children are capable of making their own decisions with little parental guidance.
An example of permissive parenting style is- “Are you ready you clean up your toys? You don’t have to if you don’t want to.”
• The authoritarian parenting style is an extremely strict form of partnering that expects a child to obey the rules and regulations set out by the parents with little or no input or communication from the child.

I am unsure of a example of authoritarian parenting style?

Authoritarian

Authoritarian parents demand complete obedience. They do not take into consideration their child's viewpoint, nor do they tolerate negotiation or explanation. For example, when a 3-year-old child grabs a toy from her friend, an authoritarian parent would demand that her child return the toy immediately. In another example, when a 5-year-old requests an additional snack, an authoritarian parent promptly refuses the request, because that violates the one-snack rule.
