Hi everyone my name is Kathryn, Im new here and Im planning on studying the Diploma of Education and Care through OTEN.
My question is in regards to the work placement - as I work full time at the moment I wont have much time (or any at all) to do this so I was planning on doing the subjects I can while Im working at my current job and doing the work placement when I leave as I will have time to do so. Do you have to do the work placement at certain times during the course or can I do it when it suits me?
Thanks!
Kathryn

Re: Work Placement
I'm just about to finish my diploma and had to do quite a lot of assignments in the workplace and also had to get forms signed in the center before I could pass the subject and move on to the next one
Re: Work Placement
Are you currently working in childcare? Because you can do "work placement" at your current job if you are working in a centre...
As allie21 mentioned some assignments may require you to get forms signed etc. However with these types of assignments which requires you to do "work placement" maybe you could talk to the advisor's at OTEN and request them if it's possible if you could do these assignments last. Worth a shot...
Good Luck!

Re: Work Placement
Thanks girls for the reply. No I'm not currently in the childcare industry, i work in a call centre for a cruise company and need to get out of the office!!!
I do shift work with some shifts starting as early as 8.30am and shifts finishing at 7pm so there is no way i can do work placement while I'm working full time and i cant afford to quit my job but I'm desperate to start this course and get into the industry. I'm so stuck!

Re: Work Placement
Just another thought, would it be possible to work full time in a child care centre without a formal qualification such as an assistant and maybe do the work placement that way?
Re: Work Placement
Hi Kathryn,
Once you start your Diploma qualification, according to the regulations you can be counted as a cert 3 since you are "actively working towards" a qualification as long as you are meeting the following requirements:
Actively Working Towards
In this case, you may be able to start a full time job as an assistant in a childcare since you will be studying your diploma soon. You just need to find a centre which can be the most difficult part. I suggest that you don't leave your current job until you find a centre for work...
