Outline Impact Of Sustainability For Key Global Issues

Post by bubbler12 » Sat Dec 05, 2015 2:47 pm

Task 2- Key global issues

If we say that something is environmentally sustainable, then one would consider that something would be able to continue forever.
The earth is one but the world is not. We all depend on one biosphere from sustaining our lives. Yet each community, each country, strives for survival and prosperity with little regard for its impact on others. Some consume the earth’s resources at a rate that would leave little for future generations. Others, many more in number, consume for too little and live with the prospect of hunger, squalor, disease, and early death (NGO committee on education)
Question-
1. This assessment task will require you to read and determine an understanding of various global issues pertaining to environmental sustainability. For this assessment task, you will be required to outline the impact on sustainability for each of the key global issues identified below?
a) Climate change
b) Ozone layer effects
C) Greenhouse effect
D) Earth resource
e) Biodiversity

Answer-
I am unsure on this question but does this mean we write about each one?

Yes, for this question you will need to research each of the points (a to e) and how it impacts sustainability... It seems like this is a tough task and I think you have a lot of reading to do for each point...

So does this mean how climate change impacts sustainability

Is this on track?
• Climate change-
During the summer months the sun shines with enormous power and generates heat. When this occurs we experience the heat to dry up the farming land and starting huge wild forest fires throughout the land. By the land drying up this has a big impact on the farming community as there is reduced water availability to provide the farmers with for their live stock and to water the farming land. The farmers are unable to water their crops or supply water to their animals which will be in a result for the cropping paddocks and animals to die and the farmer can’t produce any food or meat to the community.

Hi everyone,
i was bit stuck on this following question:

1. Outline the impact that the following issues could have had on a centre’s sustainability program. In your answer, provide an example for each issue of what could been done at an centre to address the concerns caused by these global issues:
• Climate change
• Ozone layer effects
• Greenhouse effect
• Earth resources
• Biodiversity

my attempt to answer to this question so far is below I hope i am on the right track. please give me ur feedback:

Climate change: Climate change is yet another environmental problem that has surfaced because of rise in global warming which occurs due to increase in temperature of atmosphere by burning of fossil fuels and release of harmful gases by industries. We can all contribute to prevent climate change by making small changes in our day-to-day life by using public transport for commuting, using bikes or walking to travel short distance. Reducing meet consumption, reducing CO2 emission by turning off all appliances (from the socket) when not in use, Replace domestic and electrical equipment with energy efficient recommended models. Insulate the centre by using loft insulation, cavity wall insulation etc.,

Ozone layer effects: ozone layer is an invisible layer of protection around the planet that protects us from the sun’s harmful rays. Depletion of the crucial Ozone layer of the atmosphere is attributed to pollution caused by Chlorine and Bromide found in Chloro-floro carbons (CFC’s). Once these toxic gases reach the upper atmosphere, they cause a hole in the ozone layer, the biggest of which is above the Antarctic. We can protect the ozone layer by planting more trees, using A/C and refrigerator which is ozone friendly by switching our air-conditioning and refrigeration equipment that do not use HCFCs as refrigerant.
Buying aerosol products that do not use HCFCs or CFCs as propellants.

Greenhouse effect: The heat radiated from the sun warms the various gases in the earth’s atmosphere. Without these gases it would be impossible for living things to survive. They keep the earth warm and insulated. The greenhouse effect is when there is an increasing concentration of these gases and this increases the world’s temperature. Human activities, primarily the burning of fossil fuels and clearing of forests, have greatly intensified the natural greenhouse effect, causing global warming. We can all contribute to prevent green house effect by
➢ Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. ...
➢ Use Less Heat and Air Conditioning. ...
➢ Replace Your Light Bulbs. ...
➢ Drive Less and Drive Smart. ...
➢ Buy Energy-Efficient Products. ...
➢ Use Less Hot Water. ...
➢ Use the "Off" Switch. ...
➢ Plant a Tree.
Earth resources: Energy use is the major cause of climate change in Australia this is because 90% of the electricity we use is produced by burning polluting coal. This has made Australians the highest per capita greenhouse polluters in the world. Instead of burning coal we could use renewable energy such as solar and wind energy at the centre to contribute to conserve earth resources.

Biodiversity: Biodiversity is the variety of life: the different plants, animals and micro-organisms, and the eco systems they are part of. Loss of Biodiversity is Human activity, which is leading to the extinction of species and habitats and loss of bio-diversity. Eco systems, which took millions of years to perfect, are in danger when any species population is decimating. Balance of natural processes like pollination is crucial to the survival of the eco-system and human activity threatens the same. Another example is the destruction of coral reefs in the various oceans, which support the rich marine life. We can help to conserve our biodiversity by supporting the birds, reptiles, mammals, and plants that live in our neighbourhood. we can also attract more wild species by providing water, food, shelter, and privacy. By protecting their natural habitats. Explore habitats in our area. Help clean up and protect beaches, parks, reserves, and fields where wild plants and animals live. Etc.,
