Codes Of Practice Regarding Healthy Food and Drinks
What codes of practice should you follow in an Early Childhood Educational and Care service that ensure you are working ethically and ensuring the rights of the child when providing healthy food and drinks.
I am on this question since yesterday and still haven't figured out what the answer is. My proposition is:
Chapter 3 of the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code
Standard 3.2.2 Food Safety practices and general requirements
- Handling Skills and Knowledge
- Food Handling controls
-Health and Hygiene requirements of food handlers
The Code of Practice for Food Labelling and Promotion (the Code) has been developed as a mechanism for the food industry to aid consumers in their decision making through the provision of consistent and accurate information about food products.
The Code covers:
1. Daily Intake Guide (DIG) labelling scheme
2. Date marking
3. Allergen labelling
ECACE Code of Conduct Early Childhood Australia’s Code of Ethics- This code provides a framework for thinking about the ethical issues early childhood professionals encounter in their everyday work. Rather than being a set of rules to follow, the Code is an aspirational document which provides an ethical compass.
I. In relation to children, I will:
10. Work to ensure children are not discriminated against on the basis of gender, age, ability, economic status, family structure, lifestyle, ethnicity, religion, language, culture, or national origin.
I am sure about the first Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code and 50/50 on Code of Ethics
Please help.

Re: Codes Of Practice Regarding Healthy Food and Drinks
Could it be referring to the the NQS?
For example:
Standard 2.1 - Each child’s health is promoted.
Standard 2.2 - Healthy eating and physical activity are embedded in the program for children.
Element 2.2.1 - Healthy eating is promoted and food and drinks provided by the service are nutritious and
appropriate for each child.
Ref: Guide To The NQS
Hope this helps,

Re: Codes Of Practice Regarding Healthy Food and Drinks
Unfortunately no I have asked my tutor for help but didn't hear from her yet.
Re: Codes Of Practice Regarding Healthy Food and Drinks
My teacher said :"The answers that we are looking for are the two main codes of practice which are mentioned all throughout the learning materials; you are correct with your last suggestion, but please include the convention as well".
So I have founded only food standards code which I mentioned earlier and theECACE Code of Conduct Early Childhood Australia’s Code of Ethics and I was thinking to put there:
I. In relation to children, I will:
10. Work to ensure children are not discriminated against on the basis of gender, age, ability, economic status, family structure, lifestyle, ethnicity, religion, language, culture, or national origin.
Would that be correct?
I am not sure what these "convention " mean?

Re: Codes Of Practice Regarding Healthy Food and Drinks
So, I have found the convention for Code of Ethics and the second code of practice I am thinking the National Low.
“Under the National Law the approved provider and other persons have a
responsibility for supporting the health, protection, safety and wellbeing of all
children"
Does it make sense?

Re: Codes Of Practice Regarding Healthy Food and Drinks
Could it be Convention Of The Rights Of The Child:

Article 24 (Health and health services): Children have the right to good quality health care – the best health care possible – to safe drinking water, nutritious food, a clean and safe environment, and information to help them stay healthy. Rich countries should help poorer countries achieve this.

Re: Codes Of Practice Regarding Healthy Food and Drinks
Yes, I was thinking about that one to put it together with Code of Ethics and add the National Law and mention NQS there.
There is nothing else I can think about.

Re: Codes Of Practice Regarding Healthy Food and Drinks
The National Law provides the objectives and guiding principles for the National
Quality Framework which are:
•the rights and best interests of the child are paramount
• children are successful, competent and capable learners
• the principles of equity, inclusion and diversity underpin the National Law
• that Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures are valued
• that the role of parents and families is respected and supported
• that best practice is expected in the provision of education and care services.
