CHCECE019 - Scenario: Fire Due To Frayed Kettle

Post by jey » Sun Nov 29, 2015 11:27 pm

hi guys anyone can help me?? I stuck few questions.

thanks.

Scenario
Just before morning tea on Friday the smoke alarm goes off at Green Trees Education and Care Service. Some of the educators and staff are new to the Service and are not sure what to do and many of the emergency procedures have not been replaced after the service was repainted. The Nominated Supervisor runs through the rooms letting educators and staff know that there is a fire and this is not a drill. The new educators and staff follow the lead of the other educators and start to evacuate the children. As one group tries to leave their exit is stopped due to a locked gate so they have to take the children to another emergency exit.

When everyone is gathered at the emergency evacuation assembly point many of the children are scared and crying and the Nominated Supervisor realises that the assigned staff member forgot to pick up the emergency pack. As she returns to the building she notices that one child had been left in the bathroom and another baby is asleep in the cot room.

The emergency services informed the Nominated Supervisor that the cause of the smoke was a frayed kettle cord in the kitchen. A safety check at the beginning of the week detected this but nothing had been done about it.

12. How would you use this case study as part of the quality improvement process?

13. How would you gather information and share ideas from staff, educators and families about this incident to inform self-assessment?

Well first and foremost you need to make sure that all staff are aware of the exit points during evacuation. The evacuation procedures should be displayed in areas around the centre and all exits should be free from hazards. Staff should be given correct procedures on how to safely evacuate children. Also any hazards identified need to be immediately removed and assessed.
