Director Causing Problem For Children With Inclusion Support

Post by saya2211 » Wed Dec 04, 2013 10:29 am

hi everyone, im pretty new here, but i've been reading some of the old posts or Topics i should say, and i can see this site has soooooooo many lovely people to support one another, so finally i decide to post this, i just want to clear out something because i can tell that every single staff is stressing out about soooo many things that our director's been correcting our way of working, i feel our ideas and opinions are worthless, as soon as you give some ideas, she would say no straight away, and she would say listen to me, i have 20 years experience working with children, i know better than you (exactly what she said) :? . im not saying that shes wrong, but i really would love to hear about other peoples ideas or opinions from other working environment. (believe or not i've been working here for a very long time, n im worried that if i go look for a new job my old habits is gonna stick with me...lol i dont really want to keep them, she can have them back. hahaha )

first is about Inclusion Support program from Children's services. we have a few children that has Inclusion Support every week, there are more, but i think their parents dont want their children to get Examined should i say, we will talk about the two that do have the found from Gov. the director (short for D), D had big talks with their parents and tried to convince them that their children are special needs children, the parents need to bring them in at 10, centre opens at 7.30 am. her reason is their children will make noises n not listen n would give staffs hard time to teach in the morning. (they both from toddler room, but one is like 5, he has to stay with toddlers.) first mum got upset and said why? but somehow the big talks made mums agreed. and they have to b picked up by 3pm, centre closes at 5.30. One of the parent has to bring her son in around lunch time because he walks around a lot and touches everything (which we think he needs one on one teacher or at least someone who can focus on him during group time when other children are learning.. ) and when i ask our D, she said the government (inclusion support maybe) doesnt wanna us to do one on one teaching with the children, is that true? but i dont see any improvement for those children when one of our staff taking 2 of them out of the group and try to tech them, one is like doing nothing, and the other one will try to escape from her, and she has no experience on teaching special need children, the other one that teaches on Friday doesnt even have a certificate yet, she's on trainning. according to D's saying is instead to get another staff to just teach them who they are not familiar with, its better just have our own staff they pay you $15 something per hr, i pay you your normal rate but you work with them. so im confused here :wtf: . after all parents still pay school fees like 10/day, they are not paying any cheaper because the children come in only half of the day, and she still get government support found. i dont think this is fare for the parents. anyone can help with this kind of problems? where should i report this if what i'm saying is right?

there's more questions, but i will try to post it next time since it's already too much to read, lol

The way your director is treating the staff and even worse the families who need extra support is absolutely appalling. I am shocked to hear how D has dealt with these children. It is not up to the director to specify a time for these children to arrive and leave the centre because it makes it easier to handle. What nerve the director has to even suggest this to the parents!! Please report this straight away because it is pretty bad. It may not be abuse but your director is being discriminatory against these children who should be guided and supported. If you are working for a chain centre, contact head management and let them know what is going on. If you're working at a private centre try and contact the owners themselves and tell them your concerns. What your director is doing is wrong and it needs to be fixed before it gets any worse!

I am appalled reading this and as a Director myself I hang my head in shame knowing other Directors treat staff, parents & children with such little respect.
With inclusion support, once a child has been assessed the inclusion support services will identify how many hours extra help is required in the room. Contrary to certain belief inclusion support is not just for the child who has extra needs, the extra staff is for the room, so that it is easier for the child to be included in what goes on in the room, they support the child, other staff and the other children in the room. Anyway e.g I had a little boy in my centre who needed inclusion support. He was assessed and then inclusion support came and observed him and then we identified that we needed help for the core 5 hours i.e. 8am - 1pm, before and after this time we could manage without an extra person in the room. This did not mean the child was only allowed to come from 8 - 1, he could attend any time from open to close but inclusion support funding for the extra staff was only for those hours.

The parents have the right to bring their child ANY TIME from centre open to closing time and should not be told they can only bring their child in from x time - x time because it is more convenient for the centre and staff.

EYLF is about including everyone and that means those children with more needs than others. Yes it can get to a point where talks can be had with the parents that perhaps they need to look at more specialised centres where all staff are better trained to deal with special needs.

The parents of this child chose to move him to a centre like that, however until they did we were fully supportive of him being here and did everything we could to include him in every way possible.

I would report this for sure be it to the owners of the centre or board or head office or DOCS
