Annual Minimum Wage Increase Of 3.5% From 01 July

The Fair Work Commission has announced a 3.5% increase in minimum wages following its 2018 Annual Wage Review. The increase will apply to base rates of pay from the first full pay period starting on or after 1 July 2018.

The change only applies to employees that get their pay rates from the national minimum wage, a modern award or in some cases a registered agreement.

This means for Educators and ECT's receiving the minimum wage set out in the Children's Services Award 2010, or the Educational Services Teachers Award 2010 the 3.5% increase will apply.

For example:

A Cert 3 Qualified Educator (Level 3.1 - full time) who currently receives $21.29 per hour, as of 01 July it increases to around $22.03 per hour.

A Diploma Qualified Educator (Level 4.1 - full time) who currently received $25.08 per hour, as of 01 July it increases to around $25.96 per hour.

For Educators receiving above award wages, which means you are paid higher than the minimum award rate set out in either the Children's Services Award 2010 or Educational Services Teachers Award 2010, then you will NOT be receiving this increase.

To see whether you are applicable to receive the 3.5% wage increase, check your current wage in the following articles:

We will update our wage tables in the above Childcare Wages and Early Childhood Teachers (ECT) Award Wages articles from the 01 July 2018 once the increase has come into effect and we have received further details from the Fair Work Commission.
