Following the government's 15% salary hike, almost 17,000 Educators will receive higher wages this week.
With pay increases of 10% above the award rate starting this week and a further 5% increase in December of next year, employees at more than 650 Goodstart centers around Australia will be among the first to benefit.
The pay increase will be at least $103 per week for an average early childhood caretaker or educator who is paid at the award rate, and it will increase to at least $155 per week starting in December 2025.
By December of this year, an average early childhood educator will receive an extra $166 per week, which will rise to $249 by December of the following year.
The 15% pay increase is offered to up to 200,000 early childhood professionals nationwide.
In order to prevent them from passing the costs on to families, eligibility is linked to a requirement that providers limit fee increases.
Early learning providers can now apply online for money to implement the salary increase. Successful applications will be reimbursed for December 2 of this year up to June 30 of next year.
Early childhood educators in Australia are among the lowest-paid workers, according to Education Minister Jason Clare. "This initial salary increase will result in an additional $100 in their pre-tax income each week starting this month," he stated. "It will help entice those who may have recently left the sector back, and it will encourage more people to continue in the profession they love."
