Australia Post is the principal partner of the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. They have created the Pen Pal Club teacher guide encouraging children to investigate and share First Nations stories and culture through letter writing.
It has been created to support schools and early learning centres ahead of the Children’s Book Council of Australia Book Week and Indigenous Literacy Day.
Australia Post can help you connect with other early learning centres to write letters to, based on your group size, location and age group.
The Pen Pal Club is open year-round to Australian schools and early learning centres only and is free to join.
Pen pal letter writing is a fun, creative and rewarding way for your students to practice literacy and communication. There are lesson plans, sample templates and/or join our Pen Pal Club to get started.
