Interact effectively with children

Hi Guys

Could anyone help me with some examples of how to comment on the children's efforts in a way that is sensitive to each childs developmental needs from this scenario.

A group of children (between 2-4 years) have been busy making a large collage picture during morning arrival time. They have cut, glued and painted onto a large piece of paper taped to the table. The older children have carefully fringed and curled paper using some well developed fine motor skills. The younger children have just snipped and ripped some small pieces of paper and stuck them onto the paper.

Im just having trouble wording what I would say, I would think that maybe ask the children how they curled the paper, or say thats really interesting what you've done there, well done.

Any help with some examples would be great

Use lots of adjectives.
encourage the behaviour not the child.
For the older child maybe you could say, "Wow great job! I like how you curled the paper, how did you do that?"

You could ask them what they are making, why they are using the colours.
