1. Identify and discuss the key requirements of the school/centre policies and legislations that relate to performance of your work role and where and how to access them. The key requirements of the school policies and legislations that relate to my role are ensure that I keep all information regarding children and staff confidential and secure this relates back to the schools policy on confidentiality and the privacy legislation, ensure that I am following the OHS legislation this means, I do not go to school with any infectious illnesses, I notify supervisor of any workplace injuries, I report any student injuries, I check areas for any hazardous risks, I report any near miss injuries etc. I must ensure that I have the correct training on manual handling shall I need to lift or move any students with disabilities again this is a requirement of the OHS legislation and policy within the school, I need to ensure that I am wearing the correct clothing and footwear at school as to meet the staff clothing policy, in relation to the child protection policy and legislation I am to ensure that I report any suspicion of abuse or neglect to my supervisor immediately or if I am told about abuse or neglect report this immediately, I am to treat all staff, students, families and visitors at the school with respect and equality regardless of their age, race, gender, sexual preference, religion, disabilities or political views to name a few this is to follow the human rights and equal opportunity legislation and the anti-discrimination policy and legislations. I also need to ensure I follow the schools code of conduct. The policies and legislations can be accessed by reading through the policies folder located in the staff room at the school.
2. What are some of the possible consequences for the learner and others in the environment if the school/centre policies, procedures and legislation are breeched? Some possible consequences would be a verbal or written warning, expulsion from the school, suspension, dismissal from work or a fine.
3. How can we review our knowledge of legislation requirements, and seek feedback from others regarding issues we may not understand in a school environment? This could be achieved by accessing the school’s policies and legislation folder at the school and reading the information in there to ensure that we are aware of all the current legislations and policies. This could also be achieved by staff training sessions or staff meetings within the school so that supervisors can ensure all staff are aware of any changes in legislations and policies. Feedback can be given by asking others for guidance such as asking the supervisor if you are unsure of a certain legislation or policy requirement, it is important that all staff are aware of all legislations and policies in the school environment to ensure that the staff member does not breech any of these.
