Scenario
4 year old Tanya has been having serious behaviour issues at the service for the past month. She continually displays anger, refuses to listen to the educators and is aggressive with other children. You have noticed that this has started happening since the birth of her baby sister a month ago. Today while arguing over a toy, she bit a boy on his hand. You want to discuss this situation with her parents. How will you proceed?
4(a). How will you approach the family?
I will approach the family in an open, polite and non-threatening way. Ensuring to use appropriate and non-stereotypical language, gestures and terms being mindful of your own opinions all of which may offend or alienate the family and their culture.
4 (b). During the conversation, how will you approach the topic of concern?
During the conversation, I will approach the topic of concerns at an appropriate time, ensuring to greet the family, "hi how are you? how's your day been?", before discussing how Tanya's day been and the biting incident.
4 (c). After you have relayed the incident, how will you conclude? What should you do and what should you not do?
No idea for this question
4(d).What advice should you give to the family to improve the situation?
Suggest developing a behaviour management plan for Tanya to help resolve and eliminate Tanya's aggressive behaviour.
Provide Tanya's parents with techniques, strategies and resources to implement at home that may help to minimise her negative behaviour.
4(e). If the family displays anger after hearing the news, how should you react?
Apologise and explain that its no personal and each child responds in various ways.
4(f). If there has been a serious incident, e.g. an injury, trauma to a child, a missing child or an allegation of abuse to a child, what course of action should be taken?
Can anyone help or suggest any changes? Thanks in advance

You shouldn't make judgments and call Tanya bad or naughty, don't blame the parents for spending less time with Tanya causing her to be aggressive... Reassure the parents that you will support Tanya and implement strategies to guide her behaviour...

Write a detailed report of what happened, contact police (depending on the accident), make a report (child abuse), observe for further physical signs of stress on child...
