CHCCS400C - Maximum Of 4 Children Per Experience

Post by ritu » Tue Nov 04, 2014 8:42 am

Your Assignment Module Number and Heading: CHCCS400C WORK WITHIN A RELEVANT LEGAL AND ETHICAL FRAMEWORK
Your Assignment Type: Case Scenario
Currently Working in Childcare? No
Your knowledge: Beginner

Your Question?
Today I am responsible for setting up the preschool room. I check the program and directions left for me by the room leader. I have three main areas to set up today: a ‘restaurant’ for dramatic play using the props from our restaurant kit and recycled materials; pattern making using various objects that children can stamp and print; natural materials for sorting and counting; and a creative drawing area using different grades of pencils and oil pastels, along with some Chinese artefacts that will be displayed to stimulate discussion of shape and design. I also set up the usual areas such as play dough, puzzle, blocks and library areas. The room leader has specified that for print making and creative drawing the setup should allow for a maximum of four children at any one time. I set up the restaurant in a corner area where there is plenty of room for the children as this is always popular.
Q1 The room leader has directed that the number of children engaging in the creative experiences should be limited to four children at any one time. How would Erin set up for this requirement. How she will communicate verbally that the experience is for maximum 4 children?

What is your answer so far or What have you done so far as an attempt to solve this question?
Erin would need to look at how the area is being used. It is being used appropriately. Each area needs to have its own defined space. Quiet area like library area, puzzle and blocks are separated from noisy area like restaurant which Erin decided to set up in corner. For print making and creative drawing, there should be enough space.

Yes, you're on the right track...

When setting up the experience for 4 children, you could put only four chairs to make it visible to children that only four at a time for this particular experience. During morning group time you could explain to the children that the creative experience is only for 4. You can also write a list of 4 children at a time to participate n the expereince and call them group by group...

Hope this helps,

HI Lorina,

I have a difficult question to ask with regards to the above case particularly with relation to the restaurant set up which says
" I have three main areas to set up today: a ‘restaurant’ for dramatic play using the props from our restaurant kit and recycled materials;" AND " I set up the restaurant in a corner area where there is plenty of room for the children as this is always popular.
"

the Question is "Erin has ensured that there is plenty of room for the restaurant experience. What policies might Erin be thinking about when she makes this decision' S

My reply was that she should consider the Physical Environment policy with regards to NQS 3.2.1 and that she also should have considered the Sustainability Policy. However my assessor sent it back and said the following : "You need to consider the physical environment and the experience Erin is planning to ensure there is plenty of room. See section 1 of learner guide to assist."

So I ammended my Answer to the following 2, Would these be correct? Or do you have any other suggestions :

1. Physical Environment Policy in conjunction with NQS Quality Area 3.
As the guidelines suggest that the environment has to be “designed and organised to engage every child in quality experiences in both build and natural environments 3.2.1”, she should ensure there is sufficient space for the children to play and interact so that they have some quality experience through this play.
2. Indoor Space Policy (section 107 page 124 of Edu and Care Services National Regulation 2011) that should be a guide to ensure each child has at least 3.5 square meter space indoors to avoid congestion and to ensure appropriate and effective implementation of her experiences to allow for more child participation without causing injury. So when she set up the experience in the corner where there is big space she has mentally managed to apply this policy consistently ensuring there is adequate space.
