Festival Joy: Teach Kids About Hari Raya Festival

Post by star-little » Fri Jun 07, 2019 7:01 pm

The festival of Eid, known in Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia as Hari Raya Puasa. It falls on the first day of Syawal, the 10th month of the Hijrah (Islamic) calendar. It is a celebratory occasion following a month of fasting, which is known as Ramadan. The term hari raya is Malay for “big (or grand) day of rejoicing” .

During the morning of Hari Raya, would visit the mosque and recite special prayers. Other practices observed include asking forgiveness from elders and visiting relatives and friends. Understanding the tradition: https://learning.covoji.com/english/har ... lebration/

It is important for kids to know the festivals celebrated in different country. Tell them the story behind festival and encourage them to read about it. Make things related to a festival together as a family, for example set up Christmas tree during Christmas time, make rangoli during Diwali, make ketupat (packed rice wrap inside diamond shape coconut leaf) during Hari Raya.
