I Need Beginning Of The Year Activities/Ideas
Starting as a room leader, anyone had any suggestions?

Here are some ideas you could try:
- 1 week before the children were due back at the centre, make postcards/email/ecard and sent them to each child/family to welcome them back to the centre or to your room.
- On the first day of beginning with a new group of children give the parents a bag of lollies/cookies and a note attached. The notes says: Glad we could meet Enjoy this treat!
- At the beginning of the year, make a brochure that can be sent home with the children on their first day back. You can provide information about the interest areas that are set up in the room, staff details , brief introduction about yourself, any room guidelines, programming and observation information etc, contact details etc.
- At the start of the year, when a new group of children begin, buy inexpensive small pots and flower seeds from the dollar shop and get the parents to plant a flower with their child. Also take a photo of the child and their loved ones, print it out passport size,laminate it stick it on a Popsicle stick and stick in the flower pot. The children take care of their flower and watch their flower grow as they grow throughout the year. When a child leaves/ end of the year they take the flower home. Set the pots on the veranda outside the room where there is plenty of sunlight. Another idea is next to a window where there is a lot of sun, place a grid of tiles for example 8x8 on the ground or on a low table and place flower pots on top, you can grow an indoor garden. Last idea is if you don't have any room both indoors or out make a window garden you could even buy a few baskets (or a large one) and put the flower pots inside the basket and during the day you could put it outdoors in the sun where they could grow...
