The focus on natural play and open ended learning has made finding resources a lot easier because you don’t need to have a large number of toys. With some basic toys and simple free items such as plants or recyclable materials paired with cheap items you can find from the super market, you really can create just about anything!
This also means starting an fdc doesn’t have to mean purchasing expensive resources all at once. Instead you can make things and best of all the kids can help out. Things like cardboard boxes, sticks, leaves, pebbles and milk bottles etc.
A quick Google search of the following provides plenty of inspiration:
home corner with recycled materials
baby toys from recycled materials
recycled art for kids
natural play activities
all with items that you probably already have too!
Natural play with a focus on pedagogical toys especially wooden ones means there really is no need at all to buy a large number of toys
Best of all chain stores are embracing these trends, making it easier than ever for educators to include wooden toys and things like sensory play in their learning programs.
