Legal and Ethical Responsibilities and Obligations

Post by mariamgew » Sun Jan 31, 2016 6:10 pm

Still on my first assessment I just received feedback from my trainer ive fixed it up but im really stuck on this one
10. Outline your legal and ethical responsibilities and obligations towards:
- a child with mild Asperger’s
- a child with same sex parents
- a child with a severe disability
a child whose family does not speak English at home.

Her feedback was : Unfortunately, this is not a specific example of an ethical dilemma or when you have had to make an ethical decision.
Please see your learner guide for 1.4 and resubmit.

here are my new answers so far not sure if they are correct ?

6.
A child with mild Asperger’s,
as a educator it is my job to provide my full attention to the child and make sure they are treated the same as any other child in the centre, I must protect them from being discriminated against as Australian human rights commission shows that it is unlawful to discriminate a child with any disability, I must plan a routine as it is my duty of care to help the child feel equal in the centre

A child with a severe disability.

A child with severe disability. As a educator I am obligated to make sure that the child who has a severe disability is treated the same as the other children in the centre, I must show support and provide my full attention to the student at all times I will not allow discrimination against the child as the “Australian human rights commission leads the implementation of the disability discrimination act 1992” this law makes disability discrimination unlawful and aims to promote equal rights towards children with disabilities as a educator it is job to follow code of ethics and provide full support of the child.

still stuck on same sex parents and a child who doesnt speak english at home

just done these ones? not sure if they are correct !

child with same sex parents.

I will ensure that there will not be discrimination on the basis of sex, pregnancy, and martial status. I will show respect and support same sex equality around the community and centre and create a safe respectful environment for the families.
A Child with same sex parents, as a educator my job is to ensure that all children and their families are treated equally for a child with same sex parents we must promote same sex relationships through posters, books, and photos. I will show the family of the child that we are supportive and accepting through code of ethics, I will allow no discrimination towards the family and as my part as a educator I will make sure our centre is a accepting supportive environment we as educators are abided by the sexual discrimination and racial discrimination acts to stop discrimination and make sure everyone is treated equally at the centre, It is my responsibility to promote a safe accepting environment

A child with a severe disability.
I will show support and acceptance of a child with severe disability has the same rights as all the other children in the centre and community. I will allow no discrimination against the child and I will maintain a safe secure environment for the child. I will promote opportunity for the child to learn and gain skills as any other child in the centre.

A child whose family does not speak English.

A child whose family does not speak English, as a educator it is abided by the law that we treat everyone equally, I will use my ethical codes to provide support for the child, in some situations you will need to provide a translator for the parents so that you can understand their needs and show support towards them and the child, with the child you will need to use other forms of communication such as drawings, photographs and communication cards and also repetitive songs during playtime. it is helpful to make sure all staff members are flexible with routines and allow new children to observe without applying pressure for them to participate. It is my obligation and responsibility to make sure the child and their family is welcome and safe into a non-discriminating childcare centre. It is my responsibility to eliminate discrimination as it is abided by the Equal employment opportunities (EEQ), “EEQ ensures equal access to disability, gender, race, religion and training, the legislation links to anti discrimination acts including the sexual discrimination and racial acts.”
