i not sure what experience could help with this or what cognitive development is exactly. could someone please help

Think about activities where they can solve a "problem" themselves, like playing in a sand pit for example and a child doesn't know how to turn a full bucket of sand, as an educator you should sit back and see how they solve this problem ( usually they manage to turn the bucket by themselves.) - Problem solved!
