Post by samm » Fri Apr 05, 2013 7:51 pm

Your Assignment Module Number and Heading: CHCFC502A Foster physical development in early childhood
Your Assignment Type: Standard Question
Currently Working in Childcare? Yes
Your knowledge: Basic Knowledge

Your Question?
Discuss how each of the following factors listed below could impact on your ability to develop and provide opportunities for physical activity in an early childhood setting:
1.Child/educator ratios:
2. Physical environment:
3. The type or purpose of the early childhood service:
4. The amount of support from parents/guardians
5.The level of support available to the service from external bodies, ie. Advice specialists, resource workers.
6.The frequency and regularity of the use of the service by the child
7.Age/ability of the child
8.The availability of indoor and outdoor equipment/facilities
9.location of the early childhood service
10.The Early childhood educator’s own physical capabilities
11.The desire and ability for children to set up physical experiences/equipment independently
12.Safety conditions
13.Peer group pressure

What is your answer so far or What have you done so far as an attempt to solve this question?
1.activities that require a lot of supervision may not be possible if staff are responsible for a large number of children
2. May not always be space?
3. [really stuck on this one] maybe something to do with time limits or something?
4. If parents are not supportive/encouraging physical activity at home, children may lack the enthusiasm to engage in it at childcare.
5.without support, it may be difficult to understand how to involve children with additional needs in physical activity at times.
6. This could connect to the parent support question. Also, if they are not attending class often, they may not be able to understand a follow up game or extension as they were not there for the initial teaching.
7. Limits what physical activity can be provided. safety reasons.
8. Limiting as certain activities may require certain equipment
9. ??
10. If the educator is not capable physically, certain experiences will not be able to be offered as no assistance can be provided.
11. will be more enthusiastic and interested if they are involved in the set up
12. ??
13.??

Description and Message:

Seems you're on the right track with your responses...

2. may not be enough equipment available
3. yes, if you are providing overnight care, occasional care, casual care etc. may not have opportunities for physical development
9. location such as a mobile childcare centre, in a library setting, etc.
12. outdoor area may not be safe for physical activity e.g broken glass on floors, smoke buds in playground, rural areas may have snakes, may be too hot during summer etc.
13. staff may sit around and rather chat than get involved and engaged in physical activity with the children

Hope this helps,
