Reporting a centre
Just over a week ago I made an anonymous online complaint about a centre in my local community. I had numerous concerns regarding the safety of the children and the suitability of the environment being provided for children. I was unsure of exactly what would be considered a true violation by the Education Standards Board that I simply put pretty every issue even if it was small so they would know to be vigilant. My state thankfully gives the opportunity to put the application in as both anonymous but to also leave your details if you wanted updates or were happy to be contacted for further information.
Thus far I have received no emails or phone calls/text messages regarding the outcome or asking further questions (admittedly I feel I was fairly thorough in my report so I wouldn't be surprised if there was no questions to be asked). Does anyone know how long it tends to take authorities to do checks of centres after a complaint? Would a week or so be a realistic frame of time to expect a check to be done?
Furthermore, if a check has been done how long before there is any kind of outcome? I want to know what is being done about these issues and that the children's safety is being taken care of. My state has a published list of 'current compliance action' (and historical too but that's beyond the point) and of course there is the ACECQA website's publication of centre ratings so I could check that. My question is how long after an initial report could I expect to potential see something if anything?
Part of me is nervous about looking because I fear, despite there being many safety issues and in my opinion clear need for something to be done that I will look and they will have done a check and nothing will be done.

I get your concern. Usually, a week is way too short to expect any visible action. Authorities often have to schedule visits, investigate, and document everything, which can take several weeks. Even after a check, it might be longer before any outcomes are posted publicly.

Re: Reporting a centre
I guess I just have to be patient. I hope they don't tell the centre they're coming to be honest. The woman on the phone (I called initially before being directed to do an online) seemed to insinuate that when it's a report and not just a ratings visit they just turn up and I'm hoping this is the case. I think centres should get little to no warning of assessors showing up that way assessors can see how they operate in the day to day and things are much more transparent. I've heard so many stories of centres moving children around and making little changes to hide things like regularly being out of ratio when they know assessors are there only to go back to bad (not to mention dangerous) habits the moment they leave.
Re: Reporting a centre
A week is basically nothing for this stuff honestly. Those complaints can crawl along forever unless it’s something super urgent. Keep screenshots, dates, notes, everything, because centres suddenly ‘forget’ things real fast once investigators start asking questions.NeedingGuidance wrote: ↑Sat Feb 07, 2026 1:13 amJust over a week ago I made an anonymous online complaint about a centre in my local community. I had similar worries at our old centre and just pulled my son instead of waiting around stressed every day. We moved him into Little Scholars later and omg, way more structured environment, especially around supervision and communication with parents.

Re: Reporting a centre
Sorry, its been such a long time. The report did amount to something as the centre ended up with a compliance notice from my state's ESB. They couldn't prove everything I reported and they moved pretty quickly to the historical compliance section but something was done. However, I had to make a second report after reading an accusation online from a parent that the centre had sent him another child's file (medical stuff) and been telling them about CARL reports that had been made including giving the child's name. It's been about a week since I reported that so who knows what will happen.

I wouldn't be surprised if it takes longer than a week. Regulatory bodies often need time to assess reports and plan inspections. The fact that you haven't heard anything yet doesn't necessarily mean no action is being taken. Hopefully you'll receive an update soon.NeedingGuidance wrote: ↑Sat Feb 07, 2026 1:13 amJust over a week ago I made an anonymous online complaint about a centre in my local community. Re: Reporting a centre
That’s a lot to go through, but it sounds like you handled it really well. Even if the first report didn’t cover everything, at least it led to a compliance notice, which is something tangible. And good on you for following up when you saw that second issue on sharing another child’s medical file and CARL reports is a pretty serious breach. Hopefully the regulators take it seriously and act on it soon.
It can feel frustrating waiting to see what happens, but you’ve already made a difference by speaking up. Sometimes these processes move slowly, but each report helps build accountability.
