Toddler's dietary requirement

Post by Sandeep » Tue Oct 21, 2014 10:17 am

Your Assignment Module Number and Heading: CHCECE004, Promote and Provide Healthy Food and Drink
Your Assignment Type: Case Scenario
Currently Working in Childcare? No
Your knowledge: Beginner

Your Question?
Mariam, Who is new to the service, is excited when she sees a ham sandwich. The toddler makes happy sounds and waving her arms. But when the educator places the plate in front of her, she just sits there are makes no attempt to eat the sandwich.

Her mother explains later that she taught Mariam not to eat meat filled sandwiches. In fact, her daughter has never eaten sandwiches.

What communication should take place between the service and the family about the toddler,s dietary requirement? When should this occur?

What is your answer so far or What have you done so far as an attempt to solve this question?
I think the service should apologise for their mistake and should note on the Mariam daily mealtime routine chart that she is non meat eater. Service take responsibility to provide Mariam alternative food instead of meat filed sandwich.
It should be occur during enrolment.

Yes you're on the right track with your response. The child's food preferences, likes, dislikes, dietary requirements should be spoken about upon enrolment. A form should also be given to the parents to fill out on their child's food routine, food preferences etc. within the enrolment pack as well. Once this has been filled in the information should be shared with the child's educator as well as the kitchen hand who prepares all meals for the children. If there are any special dietary requirements then this should be displayed in the food preparation area for each individual child.

Hope this helps
