According to the Child Protection Act 2009 from what I understand as an employee of a licensed Care service then it's mandatory for you to report all cases of child abuse by law as a Childcare assistant.

Re: Reporting Child Abuse Cases In QLD
I work as an assistant in a long day care centre in Qld and have just completed an online Child Safety course through In Safe Hands. It states in the study notes that as a child care educator in Qld you are NOT a mandatory reporter. However, you must consider your duty of care responsibilities. Duty of care is a legal term and is covered by common law, not criminal law. This means a person who breaches duty of care can be sued and ordered to pay compensation by a civil court even though you have not committed a criminal offence. So best to just consider your role to be that of a mandatory reporter even though you are not.
