Natural and Logical Consequences

Q1-- EVENT
in the following situations, indicate both what would be a likely natural consequence and a logical consequence that you could implement

1-tim 1 1/2 is not fully toilet trained but does not want to wear a nappy to bed
natural consequences
Tim will be unhappy and anxious about going to the toilet
logical consequences
I will Stop using nappies during the daytime and put Tim in underpants. Continue to use a nappy for daytime sleeps.

2-Tom 5 wants to stand a chair on top of the table to build the top of his enormous block tower.
natural consequences
he will fall down
logical consequences
he will be more focused and complete his work with full attention

3-Ellie wants to bring her new roller blades to after school care to play with

she will be happy and spend all of her time with her favourite roller blades
logical consequences
kids may fight over the roller blade to get their turn

4-Gregor 4 wants to bring all the toys he got for his birthday for show and tell and play with them during the day

he will learn to share and the effective way of telling about his toys
logical consequences
other kids may get upset with the show of toys

Q2-create a list of positive /negative gestures and facial expressions you may use when talking to a child about their behavior

Positive gestures
• Smile and use positive facial expressions
• Model respectful communication practices at all times
• Maintain eye contact
• Praise and thank children
• Respect the feelings and opinions of children
• warm and caring body language
• hugges and kisses

negative gestures
• Criticizing
• blaming children or being judgmental
• Lecturing, ordering or threatening children
• Talking to a child with your back turned or as you walk away
• Using or tolerating sarcasm, anger, put-downs or name-calling
• Impatient body language e.g. rolling your eyes, sighing or tapping your foot
• Diminishing praise, e.g., ‘Thank you for cleaning up – I wish you did that every time.

Q4- Consider and reflect on the different attitudes and environments we can create when we use positive or negative statement

take reasonable steps to ensure that education and care is provided to children in a way that gives each child positive guidance and encouragement toward acceptable behaviour (regulation 155).give each child positive guidance and encouragement toward acceptable behaviour and encourage children to express themselves and their opinions With positive statements we can create peaceful and encouraging attitudes and environments. Examples: - Successful and satisfied environment.- Trustful . the child will have a strong sense of identity;
• the child will be connected with and contribute to his or her world;
• the child will have a strong sense of wellbeing;
• the child will be a confident and involved learner;
• the child will be an effective communicator

Avoid using a critical tone of voice or sarcasm.With negative statements we make our environment complexed and difficult. Examples- Discouragement- Lack of confidence. avoid Abnormal, subnormal - negative terms that imply failure to function 'normally'. negative statment will result in discouragment of the child.
