You realise that Timothy needs a nappy change.

Describe the nappy change procedure

Answer:
To change Timothy's nappy you need to wash your hands first.
- wet hands with running water, use liquid soap and spread over hands.
-rub hands vigorously as you wash them, as you wash your hands all over, pay particular attention to wash your palms and back of hands,in between fingers,nails and around wrists.
-rinse your hands thoroughly to remove germs.
-pat dry your hands with paper towel and turn off tap using paper towel.
-gather all the equipment and place ready to use;clean nappy,bottom washer of baby wipes, clean clothes if necessary.
-talk to Timothy about what is going to happen.
-Lift timothy onto the change table using the correct lifting technique.
-remove timothys clothes if necessary.
-put on disposable gloves.
-place a disposable paper towel on the nappy change table under Timothy's bottom.
-remove Timothy's nappy and put it in a "hands-free"lidden bin.
-remember to always keep a supporting hands to Timothy to prevent him from falling even if the change area is safe.
-use a clean baby wipe to wipe Timothy's bottom.
-dry area gently and thoroughly.
-Remove the paper and put it in a "hands-free"lidden bin.
-remove your gloves by peeling them back from your wrists,turning them inside out.Put the gloves in the bin.
-Dress Timothy.
-wash and dry Timothy's hand.
-Take Timothy away from the change table
-clean the change table with detergents and warm water.
-wash your hands.
-records the details of the nappy change:Time,soiled/wet.

B) Describe what you would need to do and say to nurture your relationship with Timothy throughout this routine.

Answers:
- make an eye contact to Timothy and tell him that it's time to change his nappy" I think it's time to change your nappy Timothy.
-reach your arms out to Timothy and tell Timothy that you are going to lift him up and take him to the nappy change area.
-As you walk to the change area,cuddle Timothy and talk to Timothy about what are you going to do, eg ( Timothy, I'm going to remove now your nappy, talk to Timothy how much better he will feel after he has a clean nappy on.
- while perporming the nappy changing give Timothy something to do for Timothy to contribute to the nappy changing like for example allpwing Timothy to hold the nappy while you lift his bottom or give him something to hold while you wipe his bottom.
-use eye contact, a warm and friendly voice and gentle mpvements to create a sense of comfort and friendliness to Timothy.
