Your Question?
The question in the knowledge section is as follows,
The Australian Guide to Healthy Eating , highlights what type of foods children and teenagers need at different ages to get all the nutrients they need. Educators and food preparers need to be careful in food preparation not to avoid foods from the Five Food Groups and be aware of medical diagnosis for any suspected food intolerance or possible allergic reactions.
Using this link from the Australasian Society of Clinical Immunology and Allergy (ascia) identify some symptoms of food allergy that are usually obvious from the list below.
include hives
temperature
swelling around the mouth
drying hair
bleeding finger nails
vomiting, usually within 30 minutes of eating a food
runny blocked nose
stomach pains or diarrhoea
What is your answer so far or What have you done so far as an attempt to solve this question?
I have selected
- Including hives
- Swellng around the mouth,
- Vomiting, usually within 30 minutes of eating a food
- Stomach pains or diarrhoea
Description and Message:
This has come back as incorrect, however the options I have selected are the ONLY ones that match up with the information from the allergy website,
It is important to know the signs and symptoms of anaphylaxis
Anaphylaxis occurs after exposure to an allergen (usually to foods, insects or medicines), to which a person is already extremely sensitive. The symptoms of anaphylaxis are potentially life threatening and include any one of the following:
Difficult/noisy breathing
Swelling of tongue
Swelling/tightness in throat
Difficulty talking and/or hoarse voice
Wheeze or persistent cough
Loss of consciousness and/or collapse
Pale and floppy (in young children)
In some cases, anaphylaxis is preceded by less dangerous allergic symptoms such as:
Swelling of face, lips and/or eyes
Hives or welts on the skin
Abdominal pain, vomiting
Sooooo I was just wondering if anyone had done this question? Or might have a fresh view on how I am failing here - those are the only symptoms out of the list that say 'food allergy' to me and what is SERIOSULY irritating about this question is it does not detail HOW MANY responses you have to supply.
I am waiting for a response from the tutor, but she has just taken over the course halfway through and isn't back in the office until tomorrow and honestly I just want it done. Help guys?

Re: Help - Anaphalaxis question
They all sound quite similar don't they. Any of the reactions mentioned could be a cause of an allergy. If I were to choose I would probably pick hives and swelling around the mouth. Even though the other symptoms can be caused by an allergy these two are the most likely to come up rather quickly if an allergy with occurring...
Hope this helps,
