CHCIC301A - Implementing Children's Decisions

Post by Steffelz » Mon Apr 30, 2012 2:16 pm

Hey guys Ive just answered a question, and I was wondering if someone could let me know if its any good.
The Question is:If children make an appropriate suggestion or decision, how can you help them implement their idea?

And the answer is below:
First of All We need to consider:
- The child's safety and the safety of others
- Whether we have the resources (time, equipment and staff) needed to act on the decision
- Whether we have enough space or whether we have the correct location accessible to us
- Whether we can budget for it if it is to cost money
- Whether the decision complies with our centers Duty Of Care Obligations
- Whether the idea is in accordance with the centers policies and procedures

Then if we decide the suggestion to be appropriate, we can talk with the child(ren) and listen to their ideas and the ways they suggest that they would like to implement the idea.If we meet a hurdle in implementing what the child has decided they would like to do, then this is a great opportunity to engage their problem solving skills and explore alternatives. We can ask questions designed to direct and assist children to come up with a new, and hopefully more appropriate, suggestion or decision.
Once the child has a clear plan about what they would like to do, we can continue facilitating by providing or directing them to materials and resources which will help them to execute their ideas. It is very important to remember not to take over.

If anyone could t=let me know if its any good or give me some tips id really appreciate it,
Thanks :)
