Case Study 4
Ahmed is a three-year-old boy who has attended the education and care service where you work since he was 18 months old. He recently moved into the pre-school room on his birthday. The last two times his mother has dropped him off at the service in the mornings he has become inconsolable; grabbing at his mother, sobbing and pleading with her to not leave him.
Q :1. Identify two possible reasons for Ahmed’s recent change in behaviour.
Answer:
• Ahmed would find lot to get used to.
• He would be in a new sitting with more and new children and new rules and routines.
• New faces of teachers who not to know since his early stage at the care service
Q: 2. Describe three strategies that should have been put in place prior to Ahmed’s transition to the pre-school room to reduce his anxiety.
Answer:
•Encouraging Ahmed to talk about what’s making him worrying at the new class room and try a best solution to get him settle with his new environment without any stress and anxiety.
•Advised Ahmed’s parents to encourage him to talk about good things happen at the school and let him explain his day also.
•If his parents encourage him to share his interests and experiences with his new teacher, it might help him to feel more secure and comfort at the new school.

Yes, you're on the right track with your response!
Instead of putting Ahmed into the preschool room straight away it should be done gradually. First he should have a few "plays" during the day with the preschoolers, then sit with them for morning tea etc. Once Ahmed is comfortable he can then be transitioned across. The preschool teacher should also have some one on one time with Ahmed to get to know him as well as his family before transitioning across...
